Board debates tightening test-retake rules in high-school handbook

The board discussed alternatives including specifying "one retake per assessment" and allowing students to request a retake within a longer window after results are posted (proposals included two school days, one week, or five to seven days).

Board members also flagged a handbook paragraph stating that any student scoring below 70% is "expected" to retake a test, calling that wording contradictory if only a single retake is permitted. Several members suggested replacing "expected" with "recommended" to preserve staff discretion and reduce the impression of a mandate. No formal amendment to the handbook language was approved during the meeting; the board directed staff to return with clarified wording that aligns the retake limit, the pass threshold, and the timing for requesting and completing retakes.
