Commissioners authorize $3,199 emergency Otis service to restore courthouse elevator

County staff reported that Otis had terminated the building’s elevator maintenance contract following a recent payment; the courthouse put a temporary board in place to allow limited use, but Otis will perform a service call to finish repairs and install a safety switch. Commissioners approved paying Otis $3,199 to complete the work and restore full functionality to the elevator so the courts can proceed.

The clerk said she was seeking written confirmation from Otis about the contract termination and any equitable adjustment owed to the county. "Otis is going to come out and it is operational. It is working right now, but they're going to come back out and do a service call and the payment for that call is going to be $3,199 and we need to pay it so we can get the elevators fully functional for the courts," she told the board. The commission authorized the chair to sign the service authorization and directed staff to identify an appropriate funding source, with one commissioner moving to charge the expense to the general fund for immediate payment.
