Council approves conditional use for restaurant with alcohol at 724 E. Edwards

Springfield's council voted to approve a conditional permitted use for a restaurant with alcohol service at 724 East Edwards after staff and the Historic Sites Commission recommended approval with conditions. Planning staff summarized the request and recommended approval, noting conditions that any live entertainment be non-amplified and located indoors or on the existing front porch portico, hours not exceed the city liquor license, and that proposed exterior renovations be reviewed by the Historic Sites Commission. "Springfield Sangamon County Regional planning staff recommendation is approval of the conditional permitted use for a restaurant with the service of alcohol with the following conditions," staff said during the hearing.

Alderman Gregory complimented the property owners in the public gallery for their collaboration on parking and reinvestment. The council moved to approve the Historic Sites Commission recommendation; voting opened and the motion passed with eight voting yes, none voting no. The chair thanked the applicants and concluded the zoning portion of the evening.

This approval is limited by the conditions the council and staff described; any permanent exterior landscaping changes will require Historic Sites review per H3 regulations.
