Board approves parking-lot asphalt paving at Southwest Elementary to finish before school

The board unanimously approved an operations request to repave the Southwest Elementary parking lot and complete associated safety and ADA improvements. Facilities staff said they reviewed six candidate sites and prioritized three projects with the greatest need; two of the projects were small enough to be completed over the summer under staff authority, while Southwest required separate board approval because it was the most comprehensive and included a basketball play area and accessibility work.

Staff said contractors walked the site and the selected low bidder committed to finishing the work before the start of school; board members approved the project 6'0'00. The administration noted the next opportunity to undertake a project of this scope without disrupting school would be the next school break if approval were delayed.
