St. John Park board honors 10 homes in revived beautification awards

The St. John Park and Recreation Board presented beautification awards to 10 resident nominees at its July 21 meeting, returning a community recognition program that the department reopened this year. Recreation and program director Ren Arvinitis said the town opened nominations to residents for ‘‘beautiful landscaping, beautiful yard work’’ and a committee reviewed submissions before selecting winners.

Board member Bill Manisopoulos read the recipients’ names and addresses and the board handed out yard signs and certificates to winners in attendance; the board also planned to deliver certificates to recipients who could not attend. ‘‘So, we had those nominations open for a few weeks and then we had a committee that reviewed all the nominations,’’ Arvinitis said. The meeting closed that portion with a group photograph of winners and board members; the board said it will continue the program next year.
