BPAC considers 'Snow Angel' yard signs and Safe Routes outreach to help neighbors and students

Commissioners discussed a community "Snow Angel" yard sign concept and ways BPAC could help promote and support the existing program and Safe Routes to School outreach.

A commissioner presented a photo of a Wisconsin yard sign (a QR code links to a Snow Angel sign-up) and asked whether BPAC could pursue a local version. Members raised privacy and safety concerns for vulnerable residents and suggested lower-profile options (window stickers or mailbox placards) or a simple logo rather than text that calls out vulnerability. "I would feel very cringy about putting, 'Hi, somebody old and feeble lives here,'" one commissioner said; others replied that a logo or opt-in sticker could help volunteers identify neighbors who need help without stigmatizing them.

The group agreed to contact the Snow Angel program and Safe Routes to School coordinators to explore a pilot, and several commissioners volunteered to help with design or limited funding if the program requests it. Staff and members emphasized coordinating with program owners before printing or distribution and recommended pursuing a low-cost trial (50–100 signs or stickers) to evaluate uptake.
