BPAC voices concern about stalled VO bike-share contract as move-in approaches; university reports summer bike removals

BPAC members raised growing concern that the city has not finalized a new contract authorizing VO operations despite delivering recommendations months earlier, and warned the approaching student move-in period increases urgency.

Commissioners said they have not received a substantive response from VO contacts (named Reed and Chris Anan in the record) after repeated outreach. One commissioner signaled staff would prepare proposed language expressing BPAC's concern for the next meeting or for a press release if no progress is made. "Time is of the essence in achieving this contract," a commissioner said in discussion of possible next steps.

Separately, University staff described the university's seasonal process for tagging and removing abandoned bicycles each summer: bicycles are stickered and given two weeks to be reclaimed; unclaimed bicycles are impounded and later donated to the local bike project. Staff estimated they remove 250–300 bicycles per year under the current program and expect to continue that process before the fall semester; reclaimed bicycles remain claimable for a month after move-in.
