Perkins Road closure through October prompts routing and rider-notice planning

City staff informed BPAC that the East Perkins Avenue project (sewer, street, sidewalk, and lighting work) has an estimated closure period that began in late June and runs conservatively through Oct. 30, 2026, with temporary access provided to properties but no through traffic allowed.

Commissioners and MTD representatives discussed practical implications for bus routing and rider communications. Shoshi (MTD) explained that MTD learns about closures from city engineers, street supervisors and internal supervisors who drive routes; reroute notifications are then prepared for drivers and riders. The commission asked that MTD staff be included on city closure email lists and that the transit agency coordinate schedule adjustments in August when route 10 adjustments are expected to begin.

Carmen Franks said the closure notice went to media in June and staff will follow up with the project manager to provide precise routing information for MTD and the BPAC to share with riders. "Temporary access will be provided to all properties during this project though no through traffic will be allowed," she said when sharing the estimated closure timeline.
