Executive Director Dean Serpa told commissioners the commission is ready to post the vacancy for the former 'division chief for community affairs' position with an updated title: Division Chief for Government and Community Affairs. Serpa said the position will be a level seven and, when filled, likely designated a major policymaking position that requires filing the Commonwealth's annual statement of financial interest and is subject to MGC hiring policy 10301. "We are ready to move forward with the posting for that position," Serpa said, noting an updated job description and posting are in the packet (pages 27–35).
Serpa proposed forming a staff hiring committee to vet and select candidates and welcomed commissioner participation. Commissioners recommended flagging Open Meeting Law and public-records experience in the posting as "preferred" and discussed that the government-affairs orientation would help funnel requests, such as staff inquiries about prediction markets, to the appropriate office. Commissioners expressed support and the chair authorized Serpa to proceed and keep the commission updated as the selection proceeds.
