Public commenter urges deferral after alleging agenda posted with wrong month; board opts to proceed

A public commenter urged the Nashville Public Library Board of Trustees to defer action items on the meeting agenda, saying the agenda posted online showed June rather than July and that the public had not received adequate notice. The speaker asked the board to postpone votes and suggested holding a special meeting because the public packet appeared to have been changed on the day of the meeting.

"You simply cannot go out there and have the agenda updated on the day of the meeting," the commenter said, asking for a deferral. Board counsel reported that IT had traced the agenda posting back to the 14th and that, while there was an incorrect notation about the next scheduled meeting date, the substantive items appeared in the week-old posting.

The board agreed to proceed with votes on the items, asked staff to record the public commenter'9s concerns in the minutes, and tasked counsel with determining whether a follow-up meeting would be required. Cameron McCassen, representing NAT, told the board he had checked IT logs and "confirmed with Randall Williams from IT that there had been no changes," disputing the claim that the agenda was altered the same day. The attorney summarized the legal position: IT confirmed the agenda was posted on the 14th and any clerical error concerned the listed date for the next meeting rather than the agenda items themselves.

The matter will be noted in the minutes and counsel will advise whether additional notice or a special meeting is required. If a follow-up meeting is needed, board members said they were willing to reconvene.
