Board reviews $140,000 preservation addition at 633 S. Washington; $10,000 grant eligible

The board reviewed a first read on a preservation incentive application for 633 South Washington Street. Staff said the two-story 1927 house would receive a one-story, approximately 460-square-foot rear addition to provide a mudroom, laundry, powder room and a first-floor bedroom intended to allow the homeowners to "age in place."

Total project cost was presented at approximately $140,000. That cost makes the homeowners eligible for the $10,000 grant available under the village preservation program; staff also estimated village property-tax relief of roughly $5,900 over five years for the village portion of real estate taxes (about 7% of the assessed increment). The Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the proposal in July and voted unanimously to recommend the building-permit fee waiver, expedited processing and the grant to the board. The project is expected to appear on the consent agenda in August.
