Magnolia Senior Living amendment advances to second read for interior and mechanical upgrades

The Village Board gave a first-read review of a major amendment to the Magnolia Senior Living plan development at 10 North Washington. Mark Sang, the project architect, told the board the 1976 building will undergo extensive interior renovation and mechanical upgrades to improve HVAC, remove aging cast-iron sewers, and extend the facility's useful life.

Sang said the project will relocate many mechanical units from the roof to a ground-level mechanical yard adjacent to the alley and will rework the first floor to create more active community space. The Plan Commission reviewed the changes, unanimously recommended approval and requested a revised landscaping plan and screening for relocated equipment; staff said they will return with an updated landscaping plan for administrative review. The property's use will remain assisted living (the project cited about 67 beds). The item will return for a second read in August.
