Resident urges Hinsdale to expand safety signage after downed power line incident

During citizens petitions at the July 21 meeting, resident Edward of 412 Fuller Road recounted a June 8 incident when a downed power line near his window prompted an emergency response. He said first responders blocked the street with cones and tape, but several pedestrians—including a mother with young children and a person pushing a stroller—crossed the tape and walked close to the hazard before staff or neighbors could warn them.

Edward praised the response and follow-up he received from village staff and said police and fire later provided sidewalk signs and cones. He urged the village to run a broader awareness campaign explaining that one does not need to touch a downed wire to be electrocuted and requested clearer, easily visible signage on sidewalks during such incidents. "You don't have to touch a down wire to die basically," Edward said, describing the need for stronger public messaging. Village staff and the fire chief acknowledged the concern and said they would discuss awareness outreach and signage improvements.
