Supervisor warns state grant cut will reduce private‑well testing; county seeks responses

A Louisa County supervisor raised concern that the state reduced the county’s private‑well testing grant from $45,000 to $35,000 for the coming year, a $10,000 cut that the supervisor said will hinder testing and treatment of private wells in unincorporated parts of the county.

"The state in their great cost cutting endeavor has taken the $45,000 and decided to make it $35,000 for next year," the supervisor said. He told the board his office had spent more than $55,000 this year on testing and treatment and that he has drafted an email to state officials (named in the record) expressing his displeasure. He said that if the state does not respond satisfactorily he will "be banging on the table" and reach out to news outlets to press the case for water‑quality funding.

Supervisors noted Louisa County relies heavily on private wells and that neighboring counties have rural water systems; the board did not adopt a formal resolution but asked staff to seek clarification from state contacts and report back.
