At public comment and during council reports, residents and Councilor Dr. Rothschild emphasized that school-zone safety work should be done before Scranton schools reopen on August 26.
Dr. Rothschild said DPW will begin repainting and refreshing crosswalks in the first week of August, prioritizing school zones. "Crosswalks and proper signage within 1600 ft of every school ... Is there a plan in place while council is away to ensure that every school area meets that state-mandated safety standard before students return?" resident Mike Mancini asked during public comment.
Council asked staff to notify members if particular locations were missed and requested written updates at caucus. No specific funding changes were proposed in the meeting; the city committed to operational scheduling and to prioritize school-zone crosswalk repainting ahead of the new term.
