Neighbors object as commission advances rezoning for 3714 Reading Road on first reading

The Red Bank City Commission carried a first reading on ordinance 26-1311 to rezone 3714 Reading Road from R1 to RTZ, permitting the lot to be subdivided into two 50-foot single-family parcels. Commissioner Wilkinson moved the ordinance; Vice Mayor Barry seconded. The commission scheduled a second and final reading for August 4.

Multiple neighbors told the commission they had been told previously the parcel would host a single-family home and warned the narrower lots would worsen on-street parking and flooding. Diana Magnus, who gave her address as 3707 Reading Road, told the commission, “We don’t need more traffic. We don’t need duplexes. We don’t need town houses.” Staff and the applicant said the request complies with the city’s comp plan and zoning patterns near Dayton Boulevard and noted that single-family houses on 50-foot lots are common in Red Bank. A staff representative said every single-family home in Red Bank must provide two off-street parking spaces and that garages are planned for the proposed houses.
