After more than an hour of public comment focused on a proposed Google data center, the Hermantown City Council moved through its consent agenda and approved several routine resolutions.
Counselor Gisler moved to approve the consent agenda (minutes of July 6, 2026 and accounts payable for July 1–15, 2026); Counselor Peterson seconded and roll call recorded five 'I' votes. The council then approved resolution 2026‑84 regarding annual insurance renewal and not waiving statutory monetary limits on municipal tort liability, resolution 2026‑85 accepting an easement from the Diocese of Minnesota for Lightning Drive trail improvements, resolution 2026‑86 authorizing RFPs for city attorney civil services (current city attorney expected to depart around Oct. 1), and resolution 2026‑87 approving pay request #4 for Keen Creek Trail construction. All motions were approved by roll call votes recorded as 'I.'
Speakers at the meeting repeatedly asked the council to delay development agreements and to compel additional technical study; no development agreement for the data center was approved at this session. The council then voted to recess.
