Waste team plans popup swap shops, eyes permanent swap site near transfer station

Diane, a committee member, said the waste team is exploring popup swap shops with the "ultimate goal of the city having a permanent swap shop at the transfer station or nearby," though she cautioned that achieving a permanent facility will require more work and partnership.

She said the team is also planning a short fall/winter series of events — including free outdoor movie screenings and educational programming such as "The Story of Stuff" — to engage residents and recruit waste committee members. Diane said the team has not yet met since submitting draft materials but plans to convene before September to organize these activities.

The waste team intends to partner with other community groups and to use neighborhood meetings and recreational events to promote the swap shops and recruit volunteers.
