PennDOT adds pedestrian crossing beacon to Penn Street repaving project

The borough manager reported that Penn Street will be repaved shortly and that PennDOT has added a pedestrian crossing signal with 40‑second flashing beacons at the Penn and Pine intersection at PennDOT’s expense. The manager said, “we got added a pedestrian crossing signal ... I think the cost is about $20,000 that PennDOT added to the project at their expense.” The plan sheet is posted at the municipal building for review.

Officials said the beacon will provide a marked, signal-assisted crossing where there is currently no safe pedestrian crossing between Walnut and Garber Streets on Penn Street. The manager said signs and flashing beacons will activate when a pedestrian presses the button, providing a 40‑second crossing interval.
