Council approves several transportation and infrastructure contracts and agreements, including fiber, Roswell Road safety study and Glenridge side-path work

The Sandy Springs City Council approved a package of infrastructure and transportation actions on Tuesday, advancing communications infrastructure, road-safety planning and pedestrian connections.

Public Works Director Marty Martin presented multiple contract awards and agreements. Staff recommended a design award to Kimley Horn and Associates for the city's ring-fiber extension (the "ring B" fiber) in the amount of $399,880; Martin said the city received one responsive proposal and that purchasing staff had contacted other firms to understand non-submittal reasons. "Staff recommends awarding the design ... in the amount of $399,880," Martin said.

Council also approved a scoping and safety study contract with Gresham Smith and Partners for a Roswell Road safety project (Hammond Drive to Carpenter Drive) for $223,750. The study will assess access-management treatments and prepare a quarterwide implementation plan, building on the city's 2025 Safety Action Plan.

For active-transportation improvements, the council approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Fulton Perimeter Community Improvement District to fill a Glenridge Drive side-path gap; the CID will provide 50% of estimated project costs and has already advanced initial design work. Separately, council approved the purchase of fee-simple right-of-way and a temporary construction easement from RXHST Sandy Springs LLC at 5885 Glenridge Drive for $322,000 to permit construction of a side path; staff noted the negotiated amount reflects property-owner quotes for sign replacement and other impacts.

Council members asked that the Roswell Road study coordinate with Georgia Department of Transportation work on nearby interchange concepts and that the various plans avoid duplicating effort. All items were approved without recorded roll-call tallies in the minutes.
