Committee members asked whether utilities and access exist for the lot tied to the petition to vacate part of Alabama Street.
A staff member replied, "We have water and sewer and everything out in Platinum Street, but there's no utilities going through our parts going through here," and explained the existing mains are on Platinum Street not the vacant segment. The staff member added that using the alley for access would require a main extension that "would really be infeasible just for 1 home" because of expense.
Will O'Connor added zoning and access context, saying the owner would likely need to create a stairway up from the main street to provide primary access; staff suggested the practical alternative for service lines could be to bore beneath the retaining wall rather than run a new main for a single dwelling.
The committee did not take action on the utilities question; the item was held until the applicant can appear, when the petitioner can provide more precise development plans and utility-routing proposals.
