During the briefing on the petition to vacate a portion of Alabama Street, staff reported receiving one written comment opposing the vacation out of concern for neighbors and local access.
Will O'Connor told the committee, "we did get 1 comment from a citizen stating that they were against this street vacation for concerns about where they were gonna build. Are they gonna block the view from those houses down there on below Alabama Street and off of Platinum?" He also said an existing trail through the Trevonia Mine Yard serves children walking west and that preserving that trail informed staff recommendations against vacating the section that provides trail access.
O'Connor added that while an adjacent property owner had expressed interest in purchasing a vacated portion, staff and commissioners noted the competing public-interest concern about maintaining safe, established pedestrian access. The committee voted to hold the petition until the applicant can appear, at which point further public testimony and examination of trail impacts can be taken into account.
