Treasurer: Kane County reports $12 million surplus, collections ahead of schedule

Treasurer Lawson reported to the Kane County Public Service Committee that tax-collection metrics and reconciled bank accounts are in the monthly packet and that collections for 2026 (applied to the 2025 tax year) were ahead of a typical schedule. "For instance, this year, it's 73% collected through the end of June," he said, contrasting that with the usual split between June and September payments.

Lawson pointed the committee to several pages in the report and highlighted a countywide fiscal-year 2025 surplus of $12,000,000. He said interest income of approximately $20,000,000 combined with tax collections to avoid what otherwise would have been roughly an $8,000,000 deficit. Committee members asked clarifying questions about the percentages on the table; Lawson offered to follow up with line-item detail for members who wanted finer numbers.
