Northern Illinois Food Bank reports modest June increase in neighbors served after SNAP change

Staff said May activity was flat year-over-year but noted a "3% increase in neighbors served in June," consistent with a gradual uptick following a recent SNAP policy change.

Committee members said local front-line organizations have observed rising need through the summer and emphasized that teachers and school-related food supports can mask food insecurity when school meals are not available. One committee member warned the fall could be particularly difficult if ARPA funding phases out and other supports diminish.
