Committee to add late‑admit and forfeiture rules, clarify appeals for magnet seats

Staff explained current practice: when a student leaves the district, the seat is considered forfeited and the next person on the waiting list fills it; staff recommended spelling that out in policy to reduce disputes. The committee also asked for a short paragraph to cover late suburban applicants (for example, if the district has not met its suburban allocation by October 1) and to allow limited late admissions tied to meeting state allocation needs. For appealable decisions (for example, a principal denying a placement), members proposed a clear timeline (the committee discussed five calendar days) for initiating appeals so seats are not prematurely offered elsewhere while an appeal is pending.
