Residents Press Board on Flock Cameras; Officials Outline Oversight, Task Force for Data Centers

Several residents raised privacy and oversight concerns about the town’s use of the Flock license‑plate camera system and urged stricter controls. Armish Christiansen said he feared nationwide access and misuse; the police chief and town attorney responded that access is restricted to valid investigations under case numbers, the town’s contract has confidentiality limits and the town is reviewing whether contract terms should be tightened.

Separately, members of the public thanked the board for adopting (and noting a state executive order supporting) a three‑year moratorium on certain data‑center approvals. Councilperson Flores said the board is developing a data‑center task‑force charter to study infrastructure, environmental and fiscal impacts and will invite technical and community representatives to advise the board during the moratorium. The board encouraged residents to consult meeting materials posted on the town website and to follow up with the assemblyman present, who was identified in the meeting as an attendee and supporter of related state-level action.
