Board approves staff and student handbook updates, including vaccination-exemption notice

The Walworth County board approved revisions to both the staff and student handbooks for the 2026–27 school year. Matt presented the changes, saying staff prepared a concise summary of edits that include operational clarifications (door and window procedures, van capacity), employee conduct, secondary employment, social media rules, and updated reporting procedures for staff injuries.

A board member noted she had confirmed with Matt that the student handbook makes clear parents are informed about the three vaccination exemptions; Matt said the materials do explicitly tell parents they have a choice. "He is he, you know, reassured me that they make it clear at the outset that parents have a choice in the matter," the member said during the meeting.

Matt thanked staff members Laura, Holly and Sarah for work on the materials and the board approved both handbooks by voice vote. Staff will publish the approved handbooks and distribute accompanying guidance to districts and families prior to the start of the school year.
