Walworth County board directs WCA representative to back increased state funding for local public health

The Walworth County Health and Human Services board voted to ask its Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) representative to support a resolution from Wood County urging greater state funding for local public health.

Staff member (speaker 8) introduced the packet item and said the Wood County resolution asks the WCA and state leaders to make local public-health funding a budgeting priority. A committee member moved that staff inform the county's WCA representative to support the measure; the motion was seconded and approved without recorded opposition. Speaker 8 described declines in pandemic-era grant funding, noting that public-health operations previously received pandemic grants that have since ended.

Board members discussed whether to draft a separate local resolution but agreed the most immediate step was to have the county's WCA representative vote for the Wood County request. The next procedural step is to transmit the directive to the county's WCA representative and file the action with the board's records.
