Local retail, new service sites and stalled redevelopment draw EDC attention

Commissioners reviewed multiple local development items in updates and general discussion. Committee member (S7) and others spoke about Benson Bagels locating next to Subway on Sullivan Avenue and a Phillips 66 gas station nearing final phases but still delayed.

Committee member (S7) asked, "So can you tell us about what the update is on the old Geisler's?" and Chair (S1) summarized that the current proposal is conceptual and that prior Planning & Zoning review required a sidewalk connection, which affected prior approvals. Members said some approvals were conceptual only and that P&Z previously rejected certain elements tied to pedestrian access concerns.

Speakers also noted that United Delivery is awaiting final inspections on a new 30,000-square-foot warehouse and that there is ongoing uncertainty about funding or abatements for housing components of proposed projects. Commissioners requested clearer timelines and suggested the town manager be asked for updates at a future meeting.
