Commission tables decision on Prometheus TIF extension after infrastructure and workforce concerns

The commission postponed a decision on extending the tax-increment financing (TIF) allocation for Prometheus after an extended discussion about infrastructure costs, negotiation strategy, and potential community benefits. A committee member told the board the county had previously suggested an infrastructure investment around $2.5 million but had also heard figures closer to $5 million; staff confirmed the county’s committed share around $2.95 million and said they were pursuing federal grant opportunities to help cover remaining costs.

Commissioners debated whether the commission should ask Prometheus to return a small portion of the tax increment for Greene County-focused workforce development programs rather than directing funds to specific organizations. One commissioner suggested “1% of those dollars we’re returning to you will be reinvested into Greene County specific workforce development programs,” while others cautioned against renegotiating existing agreements and recommended any new terms be limited to additional acreage or investment. Given outstanding questions and absent board members, the commission voted to table further discussion until the next meeting and asked staff to follow up with Prometheus representatives.
