Westgate Authority update: security concerns, interns, daycare plans and ongoing construction

A commission representative delivered the Westgate Authority report, reviewing a long-standing interlocal agreement and recent amendments and highlighting ongoing construction activity: roughly 25 buildings are under development and additional structures remain under construction. The report noted high-level political support for the Munitions Campus and said the site hosted about 150 interns this summer, which staff said has increased operational activity and traffic considerations.

Security and logistics were a focus: the report said local meetings had involved the FBI and the NCIS agent assigned to the base (Nicholas Lofredo) and that Crane-related security concerns and buffer areas (Northgate, Eastgate) were being considered in local agreements. The authority is also exploring amenities to support employees and residents at the campus, citing discussions about a Kid City USA daycare for roughly 150 children and outreach to restaurateurs to lease space.
