Commission invites public comment before Aug. 28 vote on tribal compact amendments

Commission staff told the joint committees that public comment on the proposed restated compacts can be submitted by email (address listed on the commission website), by signing up to speak at the commission’s public meeting on Aug. 28, 2026 at 9:30 a.m., or by participating in the posted public-comment period. Staff emphasized that any compact amendment would not become effective until it is published in the Federal Register.

Joni Bridal closed the presentation by saying the commission has posted the special meeting information on its website and invited stakeholders and members of the public to submit comments in advance or speak at the meeting. "We will take public comment and vote then on whether to move this forward, for to the governor for final execution, or to send it back for further negotiation," Bridal told the committees. The joint committees adjourned without taking action during the hearing.
