EMS reports 519 calls in June; department outlines staffing, training and tech updates

David Adams, Riley County Emergency Services Director, delivered the monthly EMS operational report. He said the service logged 519 calls in June, with Station 1 recording 162 calls and Station 2 recording 164; Station 3 had 74 calls, Station 4 had 53 and Leonardville reported 22 calls. Adams said Mondays and Tuesdays remain the busiest days and that the department is preparing for the fall standby season when staff bid for event coverage.

Adams described operational and technology work underway: a countywide mobile call app (a shared platform launched in collaboration with Riley County Fire District No. 1) now provides call information across ambulances and fire apparatus; the department plans a second and final radio reprogramming under contract; the office is uploading CRG school maps (USD 383 and other districts) into vehicle tablets to improve response routing; and the department is consolidating HIPAA and exposure‑control policies with the Health Department. Adams also noted the department’s captains completed a management program and staff are planning an airport emergency drill for Sept. 26 involving EMS, emergency management, county and city fire and RCPD.

Adams emphasized the operational benefits of the bidding process for event coverage, saying it reduces ad‑hoc signups and eases scheduling. He answered commissioners’ procedural questions about the programs and said staff will continue coordination with county counsel and human resources where appropriate.
