The Guilford County Board of Commissioners celebrated the launch of the STAR employee appreciation program on July 23, 2026, an initiative the county described as intended to recognize service, tenure, awards and employee contributions.
Vice Chair Covina Foster introduced the program and the county's HR director announced this year's award recipients. Nakai Flood of Public Health received the "Above and Beyond" award for work strengthening vital records operations; Crystal Murphy in Finance was named Guilford County Employee of the Year; other winners included Joshua Avalos (Parks & Recreation) and Lanaya Pinkston Jones (public health). County leaders praised the staff's dedication and applauded the program as a retention and morale tool.
Commissioners and staff encouraged the program as an ongoing way to recognize long-serving employees and to highlight cross-department collaboration.
