Board approves state-requested revisions to child-care assistance waiting-list prioritization

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve revisions requested by the state to the local waiting-list prioritization policy for the subsidy child-care assistance program.

Deputy or staff presenter described three requested changes: remove employment status as a prerequisite for homeless families (making them top priority regardless of employment), prioritize children with special needs irrespective of parents' education or training, and split one category into two to distinguish children working with child-protective services from those needing child welfare services. The presenter said the county currently has no waiting list and is serving applicants when they apply.

The motion to accept the state-requested changes passed with no recorded opposition; staff said the changes were reflected in the redline document provided to commissioners.
