Roxboro police roll out QR-based parking tickets; Uptown business funds first year

The police department demonstrated a new digital parking-ticket process that uses a QR code on tickets and an iPad-based issuance workflow for the parking enforcement officer. Chief Hess explained the system will allow motorists to scan a code and pay via phone (including mobile card payments) and that the program will go live Aug. 1; cash payments will remain accepted at the police department.

Chief Hess said Greens Jewelers offered to cover the first year of implementation and provided the check at the meeting. Council members noted the change is aimed at improving collection and reducing handwritten tickets; staff said handicap fines remain the largest single fine (listed in discussion as $50) and that historically some individuals have accumulated substantial unpaid ticket balances.
