Council highlights River City Days, Fire & Ice and community events; urges public participation

Council members used the July 20 meeting to remind residents about upcoming community events and to thank volunteers who organized recent festivals. Multiple councilors urged residents to attend River City Days (50th anniversary activities), noting the parade time change to Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., and highlighted a city booth that will collect downtown master-plan feedback and provide information on the new MSB facility and library plans.

Council members also mentioned a local blood drive (Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the curling center) and encouraged residents to donate. As one councilor put it, "If you can and you're able, please do that," calling attention to heightened demand for blood donations.

Other items included congratulations to volunteer teams who run Fire & Ice and the Farmers Market, a reminder that Southwest Transit runs shuttles to large events and amphitheater concerts, and notices about the city's plan to post the ACFR and to make documents available in the library and on the city website. The meeting closed with reminders that the next council meeting is Aug. 3 and that the EDA met following the council session.
