Council weighs tighter fireworks rules, distances and shorter permit windows

One official suggested setting a minimum distance from structures based on mortar size and the fire marshal's guidance; council members also proposed shortening the list of permitted days to core holidays and using public education to reduce unsafe behavior. Council asked staff to pull citation and injury data and to draft a set of recommended distances and a public education plan for the next meeting.
