Council considers simplifying garage‑sale permits, group permits for HOAs

Council reviewed Chapter 808, the village code that regulates garage and yard sales, and discussed simplifying permit requirements. The mayor noted the law was enacted to stop sellers leaving sales up for weeks but said enforcement is burdensome; one option presented was allowing an organizer to file one permit for multiple addresses during a coordinated community sale.

Staff summarized the existing rules: a license from the zoning inspector, limits on number of times per year and signage restrictions, and penalties treated as minor misdemeanors enforced in mayor's court. Council asked staff to propose edits—such as a neighborhood group permit and clearer limits on consecutive days—and return with draft language in August.
