Board grants one-year vesting extension for 217 Witherspoon project

The Princeton Planning Board voted to extend by one year the period of protection (vesting rights) for a previously approved major site plan at 217 Witherspoon Street (file P2522-2440 TH). Staff member Nathan summarized the application and said the approval, originally memorialized in June 2023, had expired on June 15, 2026; the extension would run retroactively to that date and extend protection through June 15, 2027 if granted.

Applicant counsel Ryan Kennedy told the board that construction has begun and the foundation was to be poured on the 11th, and that initial permits for the current phase were in place. Board members asked whether permits were issued before the June 15 expiration; staff and counsel characterized the request as an "abundance of caution" and the board approved the extension by roll call. "They have received permits to start construction and have invested in it," Kennedy said in explaining why the extension was warranted.
