Board approves Nickel Plate Trail directional signs on existing posts through Peru

Joe Vernon appeared on behalf of the Nickel Plate Trail organization and asked the board to allow the group to supply and attach directional trail signage to existing city signposts to mark the route through Peru. "I'm here requesting permission for the Nickel Plate Trail to supply signs and attach to existing city signs such as snow route," Vernon said, adding the organization would provide and maintain the signs and include QR codes linking to a new interactive map and historical information.

City traffic staff (Todd) said the proposed signs do not conflict with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and police and fire raised no objections during the discussion. Board members suggested placement options and noted the signs would help visitors navigate the trail and potentially draw cyclists to local businesses. The board moved to approve the request and voted in favor by voice vote. Staff and Vernon discussed a likely two‑week lead time to obtain and install the signs once approved and coordination with Mr. Wolf for any county‑owned locations.
