Board approves Central ISG contracts to replace failing pump actuators at water plant

On July 15 the Board of Control approved two separate Central ISG purchase orders for hydraulic cylinder actuator replacements at the Lorain Water Purification plant. The high service pump request was for $16,000 ($14,525 plus contingency) after Central ISG was the sole bidder; staff said one cylinder is leaking and the other is failing to open and close, which could cause flooding or pump/motor damage if not addressed.

The Board also approved a $30,000 purchase order ($27,548.99 plus contingency) for a hydraulic cylinder actuator in the low service pump station after operators reported intermittent discharge valve failures on the most-used pump. Staff estimated the low service repair will take four to six weeks and said operators are monitoring plant operations while the repair is scheduled. Mayor Jack Bradley moved to approve both requests and Safety/Service Director Rey Carrion seconded; both motions carried unanimously.
