Applicant plans public plaza, art installation and stepped building massing along 9th Street

The applicant said the redevelopment will include a courtyard/plaza intended to be green space and open to the public during daylight hours, with an art feature and possibly a water element. In response to neighbor concerns, the design concentrates density toward 8th Street and steps down on the Ninth Street side to preserve adjacent row house sightlines and vegetation buffers.

Don Warner said the applicant plans to work with Commissioner Padro and the DC Commission on Fine Arts through their grant process to plan and fund a public art installation at the project’s opening. Commissioners welcomed those community design commitments during their questioning.
