Residents urge urgent action on chronic South Brook Drive flooding

Several residents living on South Brook Drive described repeated, severe flooding that has damaged basements and left families paying for remediation. Olivia Lawless said her family has experienced worsening water intrusion since 2015 and asked the borough to "take meaningful action to identify the cause of the ongoing flooding and provide a clear path towards a solution." She recounted a 2021 event that left sewage‑like black water in her basement and said remediation remains unresolved.

Other neighbors described a clogged and silted brook, overflowing drains, and backflow from adjacent properties; one resident estimated their 1,600‑square‑foot basement has become unusable despite sump pumps and repeated cleanup costs. Residents urged the council to pursue engineering evaluations, county and state coordination, and possible dredging or grading work; council members acknowledged site visits over the weekend, committed to follow-up with the borough engineer and county representatives, and said they would prioritize investigating sources of sediment and potential short‑term measures while pursuing longer‑term funding options.
