Zoning Commission sets down rezoning at 934 Eastern Ave NE as contested case (5‑0)

The Zoning Commission unanimously voted July 20 to set down zoning commission case 26-03, a proposed map amendment to rezone 934 Eastern Avenue NE (Square 5203, Lot 851) from R3 to RA1, as a contested public hearing. Joshua Mitchum of the Office of Planning presented the report and said OP found the rezoning consistent with the Future Land Use Map and the planning area policies and that the change could support new housing types, including a mix of market and affordable units; OP recommended setting the case down for hearing.

"The office of planning recommends that the proposed map amendment be set down for public hearing," Mitchum said. Commissioners asked whether there was any known opposition; Mitchum replied there was none on record. Commissioner Moore moved to set the case down as a contested case; the motion passed on a roll call vote of 5 to 0. Vice Chair Miller noted the commission was advised to treat the item as a contested case rather than rulemaking.
