The Macomb City Council reviewed an ordinance to adopt an updated official ward map and amend chapter 2-4 of the municipal code, moving the proposal to second reading and final action at next week's meeting.
Council members were told the 2024 special census altered ward populations after the addition of Georgetown. Staff noted ward populations would be: Ward 1 — 3,199; Ward 2 — 3,112; Ward 3 — 3,182; Ward 4 — 3,007; Ward 5 — 3,667. A staff member credited the GIS center for preparing a clearer, color version of the map and for proposing boundary adjustments that did not remove any sitting alderman from their current ward. The council placed the ordinance on the agenda for second reading and final action next week.
No formal vote on the ordinance took place at this meeting; councilmembers asked questions and discussed the memo included in the packet before agreeing to return the item for final action.
