Ellsworth schools to receive $320,673 Maine Housing grant for student homelessness prevention

Administration announced that the district’s grant application to Maine Housing was successful and requested board approval to accept $320,673 for a student homelessness‑prevention program. The superintendent praised the work of Nikki and staff in preparing the application and said the funds will allow the district to hire a specialist to help families access housing and supports.

A motion to accept the grant was made and the board voted in favor. Administration noted the district will serve as fiscal agent and will coordinate with local partners including Healthy Acadia and community action agencies in Hancock and Washington counties. The board applauded the effort as a meaningful service expansion for vulnerable families.
