Dr. Haslinger told the Administrative and Audit Committee that the district will update policy KEC, administrative rule KEC‑R and exhibit KEC‑E to align language and procedures with the state complaint form and state board/department expectations. “We are not in any way changing with these updates the intent of the process of parents having the right to challenge materials in our school,” she said.
The changes replace a district form with the state-provided complaint form and adjust procedural language so the district collects the data the state requires, Dr. Haslinger said. Committee members asked whether the updates would narrow parents' rights; Dr. Haslinger responded the district had been more liberal than the state previously but has now brought its rules into "exact alignment" with state expectations while preserving the appeals process and parents’ existing rights.
The committee confirmed those KEC items (the policy, administrative rule and exhibit) will be presented to the full board at the board meeting next Tuesday for final consideration. The committee adopted the meeting agenda at the outset by voice vote; the transcript does not record mover or second by name.
