Staff presents parent-expectations document aimed at improving school–family communication

Emma Brandt, filling in for Dr. Richardson, presented an information item titled “Parents’ Expectations for Student Success,” saying the Office of Parent and Family Engagement developed the document at principals' request in collaboration with parents and district staff. “This draft is being presented to the board for information,” she said, and the district plans to launch a communication campaign for the document at the beginning of the coming school year.

Committee members discussed that the document is a guide for practice rather than a binding policy and emphasized that it is intended to strengthen trust and mutual communication between families and schools. Staff referenced Dr. Walker's communication plan as part of the rollout and underscored that the district seeks a "mutual exchange" where families and schools share responsibility for student success.

The committee had no objections to adjournment following the information items; the meeting closed with no executive-session items.
