Commission presses for action on West Townsend reading room, panels agree to defer appointments

Commissioners said the town's previously approved plan for a West Townsend reading room has stalled, and several members expressed frustration that the select board had not advanced appointments or allowed the commission to work collaboratively on the project. One commissioner said it was "abundantly clear" the town was stalling because committees had not been appointed.

The commission discussed whether HDC-appointed members should be drawn from HDC volunteers and noted the Hart Library expected three appointments to reach quorum. Because several prospective volunteers were not present to accept appointments, the commission voted to table selection of reading-room and library ad hoc committee members and to address the matter at a future meeting.
